I’m Sy, one of the founders of Global Funk Fam. I’m not the DJ, producer or performer you’ll find on stage, I’m the bloke behind the scenes, helping artists, listeners and organisers connect, collaborate and grow together.

Music has been a huge part of my life since the mid-1990s. While I may lack any real DJ talent, I’ve always been drawn to the communities that form around great music. The friendships, collaborations, opportunities and shared experiences have always interested me just as much as the music itself.

Global Funk Fam grew from a simple idea: good people making good music deserve to be discovered. My role is building the tools, platforms and systems that help make that happen. Whether it’s creating artist profiles, promoting new releases, supporting events, connecting people across the world or finding new ways to help artists reach audiences, I’m usually somewhere in the background trying to make things a little easier for everyone involved.

I genuinely enjoy helping people succeed. Seeing artists make new connections, find opportunities, gain confidence or achieve goals they’ve been working towards is one of the most rewarding parts of being involved in the community. GFF has never been about numbers, status or ego, it’s about bringing people together, opening doors and supporting each other along the way.

Outside of GFF you’ll usually find me travelling, exploring new ideas, disappearing down technical rabbit holes, or drinking a completely reasonable amount of Yorkshire Tea.
