My story behind the decks started in 1993 when two gabonese guys who wanted to start a rap band and knew I was the local rap nerd put me behind a pair of turntables. I accepted, secretly wishing to become the third voice of the band but that dream fell apart when I first took a microphone and heard my sloppy lisp. In the meantime I fell in love with the art of turntablism.
I then became the dj for several local bands going from rap, to jazz-funk or rock-break beat fusion and opening for big french artists like Saian Supa Crew, Scred Connexion or international artists like The Wailers or Jeru The Damaja.
Entering the 2000’s, as scratching became less popular in the bands and as a lover of mixtapes I transformed from a turntablist to a dj but couldn’t categorize myself in the compartmented musical landscape of that era. I was mixing with a hip hop technique but my sets were going to every kind of genres from paso doble to techno with a love for live mash ups. Only in 2007 as I discovered the worldwide local bass music scenes (bmore, baile funk, kuduro, etc…) I entered a community of like minded dj’s in a forum called the Hollerboard founded by Hollertronix aka Low Budget and Diplo with the pioneers of what would become the open format dj scene (DJ AM, Cosmo Baker, Nick Catchdubs, Flosstradamus, Dj Sliink, Four Color Zack, etc …). Everybody was switching from vinyls to Serato, exchanging their record collections , blogs were sharing rare records and new music. The dj landscape changed forever and I was riding that wave.
I was then an established dj on the Bask Coast, mixing for big surf, skate and snowboard events and after parties(Nike Cash for Tricks, Quicksilver Open,Mondial du Snow, Tignes Airwaves, etc …) and endorsed by brands like Obey Clothing, Billabong, Oxbow, Von Zipper, etc…
2007 is also the year I had a first son, and a few years later a second, and later a third, and finally a fourth. The more I became a father the less I was a dj.
2020, when the covid crisis hits I am a burnt out dj. Fed up with the “night scene” .
During the confinement I couldn’t even touch the turntables. Didn’t touch them for more than 2 years.
In 2023 I had a feeling I wasn’t done with it, that I needed to go back to the roots of my love for the mixing. The mixtapes. Playing music for a listening audience, not only for the dancers, not only for the party people. Music has so much more to offer than the party.
I also needed to get back to a work ethic so I got back to practice but to be regular I needed some “accountability”. Twitch was going to be my dojo. For the first four months I mixed 6 days a week for less than 5 viewers but I was loving it. Trying new things, exploring, progressing, failing, feeling. I rediscovered why I loved it in the first place.
And now I’m here, back were it all began it seems. No money involved. Sharing the vibes. Creating trips, experiences, accidents through the music. And hoping you will like it too.
