John The Hat

John The Hat

My first live gig was in December 2018, supporting The Plump DJs, and it quickly opened the door to a wide range of opportunities.

Soon after, I became involved with Vinyl Funktion, a monthly vinyl-only night featuring 2–5 DJs, and performed multiple sets at Sunrise Festival—two on the NeverGlade stage and one on the Hidden Stage. I was also trusted to play between acts on the Sunrise main stage throughout the entire Sunday, and became a regular house DJ for several parties at a venue in Frome.

Like many, lockdown brought things to a halt, but it also marked a new chapter. Since then I’ve opened for NeverGlade in Glastonbury, worked repeatedly as a party DJ, and become active on Twitch, taking part in CALM charity streams, GFF/NextFam nights, and various raid trains.

I joined the Techmeout collective in Frome after playing a guest set, and have since opened for the group many times alongside major headliners. My live work has continued to expand, including becoming a resident DJ for Sunny’s (Theatre & Circus backstage area) at Glastonbury, and playing the Blind Tiger stage in the Unfairground.

I’m also part of the Reggae Roast team, playing Sunday market sessions at 23 Bath Street in Frome with Congo Iain and guests. What began as occasional sessions has grown into a monthly fixture, spanning roots reggae and dancehall.

Highlights include opening for Roni Size in Frome, where I bridged genres with a high-energy bass set that set the tone perfectly for the drum & bass that followed.

I’m often booked where a versatile DJ is needed—comfortable moving between reggae, dancehall, hip hop, Latin, jazz, house, northern soul, funk, soul, Detroit house, techno, trip hop, breaks and DnB—especially in spaces with mixed audiences, where reading the floor and building the vibe is key.
