How To Twitch

Twitch is a fantastic platform for discovering and supporting DJs from around the world. Whether you’re tuning in for the first time or looking for tips to enhance your viewing experience, this guide will walk you through the basics.

Follow our guide below to get up and running.

1. Create a Twitch Account (Optional but Recommended)

To fully enjoy the Twitch experience, it’s best to create an account. While you can watch streams without one, having an account lets you interact with the community through chat, follow your favorite DJs, and receive notifications when they go live.

Steps to create an account:

  1. Visit Twitch.tv.
  2. Click the “Sign Up” button in the top-right corner.
  3. Enter a username, password, and your email address.
  4. Set your birth date and click “Sign Up.”
  5. Verify your email through the link Twitch sends you.

Tip: Choose a cool username that reflects your vibe—this is how DJs and other viewers will see you in the chat!

2. Navigating Twitch

Once you’ve signed in, here’s how to find and watch DJ streams:

  • Search for DJs: Use the search bar at the top of the screen to find specific DJs or raid trains. You can search for names or just type “DJ” to see who’s currently live.
  • Browse Music & Performing Arts: Head to the Music & Performing Arts category (click “Browse” at the top, then select “Music”) to find DJs and other live music performances.

Tip: Follow your favorite DJs by clicking the heart icon on their profile—this will notify you when they go live.

3. Watching a Stream

When you find a stream you like, click on it to start watching. Here’s what you’ll see:

  • The Video: The main screen is where you’ll see the DJ’s live performance.
  • The Chat: On the right side is the chat window. Here, you can interact with the DJ and other viewers.
    • Simply type a message and hit enter to chat.
    • Remember, Twitch has chat rules, so keep it fun and respectful!

Tip: Use emotes (Twitch emojis) to hype up the stream or cheer on your DJ!

4. Interacting with DJs and the Community

Twitch is more than just watching; it’s about engaging with the community. Here are a few ways to get involved:

  • Follow: Click the heart icon on a DJ’s channel to get notifications when they go live.
  • Subscribe: Support your favorite DJs with a paid subscription. Subscribers often get perks like custom emotes, chat privileges, and ad-free viewing. Plus, you’re directly supporting the DJ.
    • If you have Amazon Prime, you get one free Twitch subscription each month through Twitch Prime.
  • Bits & Cheers: You can purchase bits (Twitch’s virtual currency) to cheer for your DJ in chat, sending a shoutout with each cheer.

Tip: DJs often shout out and thank viewers for subs and cheers—it’s a great way to interact and support them!

5. Setting Notifications

To never miss your favorite DJ’s stream, make sure to turn on notifications:

  • On the DJ’s profile page, click the bell icon next to the “Follow” button. You’ll get a notification via email or mobile when they go live.

6. Twitch on Mobile & TV

You don’t have to be tied to your computer to watch DJs! Here’s how to watch on other devices:

  • Mobile: Download the Twitch app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Sign in with your account, and you can watch streams, chat, and more from your phone.
  • TV: You can watch Twitch on your smart TV or via devices like Amazon Fire Stick, Roku, or Chromecast. Just download the Twitch app, sign in, and enjoy those DJ sets on the big screen!

Tip: Watching on your TV is perfect for enjoying DJ sets with friends or having a house party vibe at home.

8. Joining a Raid Train

Raid trains are one of the coolest parts of Twitch’s DJ community! Here’s how they work:

  • After a DJ finishes their set, they will “raid” the next DJ on the train. This means the entire audience is sent to the next DJ’s channel.
  • Stick around after the raid to keep the party going, discover new DJs, and meet new fans!
  • Check our Raid Train Pages for schedules, so you never miss a stop on the train.

Error: Image map function is not available.

Bonus Tips for Twitch DJ Fans:

  • Lurk or Engage: If you’re shy, it’s okay to just “lurk” (watch without chatting). DJs appreciate every viewer, even if you’re just chilling!
  • Check the DJ’s Panels: Scroll down below the video player to find more info, including links to their social media, donation pages, and setlists.
  • Explore New DJs: Don’t be afraid to explore DJs you haven’t heard of before—Twitch is full of hidden gems!
